Greetings from Frank Wong !

Academic Stuff

I am a senior engineer at MacDonald Dettwiler, specializing in algorithm development for SAR processing, including geocoding, autofocus and Doppler centroid estimation. During the SEASAT days, I made the world's first SEASAT/LANDSAT colour composite. I have done extensive research and development in various processing algorithms to handle both airborne and satellite-borne SAR data. Different sensors pose different challenging problems. Currently I am working on algorithms to process airborne spotlight mode data and L-band strip mode data (relatively long exposure time).

I interact with UBC in different ways. I am a research associate in the Radar Remote Sensing Lab working closely with Dr. Ian Cumming. We supervised Yi Guo together to develop a phase-preserving processing algorithm for burst-mode SAR data last year. In 1994, I spent my time in the Radar Remote Sensing Lab as a Visiting Research fellow solving a Doppler centroid estimation problem. Also, I am a sessional lecturer in the Department of Computer Science giving an introductory course in image processing.

Personal Stuff

Restaurants ! I love to feel young again; that is why I like to be associated with UBC - seeing all the young lads again.
