Dr. David G. Michelson

David G. Michelson received the B.A.Sc., M.A.Sc., and Ph.D. degrees, all in Electrical Engineering, from the University of British Columbia in 1982, 1986, and 1993, respectively. From 1983 to 1985, he was a member of the cyclotron development group at the Triumf Meson Facility in Vancouver where he developed methods for flat-topping the accelerating voltage in the 520 MeV cyclotron. From 1987 to 1991, he was a consultant to a Transport Canada project concerned with the use of polarimetric radar in marine navigation. Dr. Michelson received a Young Scientist Award from the International Union of Radio Science (URSI) in 1987 and an Outstanding Service Award from the Vancouver section of the IEEE in 1992.

In 1994, Dr. Michelson joined the Radar Remote Sensing Group at UBC where he is studying electromagnetic scattering from terrain and ground cover, methods for classifying and interpreting polarimetric SAR imagery, and RF coverage prediction at VHF/UHF wavelengths. He also moderates NEC-List, an internet mailing list with over 400 participants which is devoted to the Numerical Electromagnetics Code and various aspects of computational electromagnetics.

Dr. Michelson is a member of the IEEE and the Applied Computational Electromagnetics Society. He is also a member of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada (Vancouver Centre) and currently serves as Chairman of the UBC Amateur Radio Society.
