Millie's PhotoHi, I am Millie Sikdar !

My Academic Background

I graduated from Govt. College of Engineering, Aurangabad, India with the degree of Bachelor of Engineering, in 2001. My field of specialization was Electronics and Telecommunication Eng. I joined the M.A.Sc. program in the Dept. of Electrical and Computer Engineering, UBC in September 2002 and graduated in November 2005.

My Present Work

As a part of my masters project, I worked on Soil Moisture estimation using Polarimetric SAR data. The objective of this work was to develop an improved model, which explicitly incorporates vegetation effects and utilizes information available in polarimetric SAR data, for better soil moisture estimation in vegetated areas. An attempt is also made to remotely determine the vegetation parameters such that the need for ground-based measurements is reduced to a minimum. The proposed model was successfully applied to SIR-C, AIRSAR and CV-580 data.

For more information, you can download the abstract of my M.A.Sc. thesis and my resume, which includes my work at MacDonald Dettwiler in 2005.

My Interests

My interests include reading and playing badminton. Though I do not play well, I still do enjoy myself while playing. I am more of a born spectator rather than a player. Reading occupies most of my free and time and I prefer reading literary fiction specifically by British authors.
