We arrived in Phortse (3800m) very hungry at about 1:30pm. We found a restaurant and rested while we swapped stories with an American couple travelling in the area.

Buckwheat and potatoes are grown on the hillside, and a fine gompa is seen at the top of the village.

From here we could see Cho Oyu (8153m, not in this photo) at the head of the valley leading to Gokyo.
