Here our sirdar (leader), Kaji, is checking what to pay the porters at the end of the trek. On the left is the porter's representative, the young Indian-looking fellow from Bhandar.

The porters are paid about 150 rupees/day for carrying 30 Kg. Some carried 45 Kg, and were paid double. We gave them a tip of about 20 rupees/day per person (there were 42 rupees to the Cdn dollar).    November 7, 1997.
